Our Under 18 Premier team scored an impressive 5 - 2 away win yesterday morning in Scribblestown against a strong Phoenix side in the FAI Youth Cup with goals from Mark O'Connor, Jamie O'Brien, Levi Boardman (2) and Adam Campbell. The two games in Shanowen Road yesterday resulted in wins for our Under 12 NDSL Premier v Maynooth Town (5 - 2) and Under 16 DDSL Premier v St Malachys (6 - 0) both in SFAI Cups.
A big weekend of Cup games with 13 of our schoolboy teams involved in SFAI / Shetchers Cup games at all ages from 12 to 16 got off to a good start this morning with wins for our Under 12 Premier DDSL side against Cherry Orchard (Major), Under 13 DDSL against Ardmore Rovers - both at Shanowen Road while our Under 14 Premier DDSL and Under 15 Premier DDSL teams had good away wins over premier opposition 4-0 and 4-1 against Phoenix FC and Shamrock Rovers respectively.
The concession of a third goal two minutes after pulling the game back to 2-2 when reduced to 10 men for most of the second half following Graham Rayners harsh sending off (2 yellows) proved to much for our LSL first team in their Leinster Junior Cup second round game against Mid-Sutton / Sportslink tonight at St Aidan's.
The visitors took the lead after 20 minutes with their only chance of the first half but Ross Harrison equalised in the 35th minute and might have had another before half time but he side-footed wide from twelve yards. The home side had the better of the second half until the turning point arrived in the 55th minute when Graham Raynor received a second yellow card and to make matters worse within five minutes Mid-Sutton/ Sportslink had regained the lead who a strike from the edge of the box took a deflection to completely wrong foot Browne. Andy McKenna was introduced and the formation changed which led to the home side dominating possession and creating chances but it was not until Keith Rooneys introduction for the last ten minutes that a chance was taken when he side footed home from ten yards with five minutes to go but poor defending two minutes later saw the visitors ahead again 3-2 and it stayed that way despite five minutes injury time.
Team; Browne, Burke, Conway, Barry, Warren, Farry, Commiskey, Reyner, Cromwell, Harrison, Peyton.
Subs used; McKenna, Rooney.
The SKB FAI Junior Cup journey got off to a good start tonight at St Aidans when our first team scored a well deserved 4-2 win over St Pats Phoenix as we made our debut in the competition as a LSL side.
A goal down inside the first ten minutes they came back well to lead 2-1 at half time with goals from Adam Firich and Jordan Cromwell and when Josh Peyton scored a third twenty minutes into the second half it looked all over but a penalty five minutes later brought the visitors back into the game only for Craig Commiskey to score a fine goal three minutes later to put the issue beyond doubt and book a place in round 3.
Team; O'Hanlon, Firich, Conway, Barry, Warren, Burke, Rayner, Farry, Cromwell, Commiskey, Peyton.
Subs used; Guirgila, Harrison, McKenna, Rooney.
Despite going a goal behind in the first half Stephen Costello's SKB first team came back in style to reach the second round of the LJC with a convincing 5-1 away win on Sunday against Portlaois FC at Rosleighann Park. Top scorer Jordan Cromwell was again among the goals with two while Josh Peyton (2) and an own goal made up the total. Our Saturday team lost 3-2 to Ringsend Rovers on Saturday in the same competition.
All of our Premier DDSL teams maintained their unbeaten starts to the season with another series of excellent results this weekend
18's 8-1 v Greystones
17's 1-1 v Belvedere
16's 2-0 v Cabinteely
15's 1-0 v Cherry Orchard, 14's 5-1 v Malahide United, 13's 5-0 v Home Farm, 12's 4-3 v Lourdes
Our first team got their Friday night floodlight football campaign off to the best possible start last night when they played the Club's first competitive match under lights at St Aidans taking on Willow Park FC from Athlone in a Leinster Senior League tie and running out convincing 5-0 winners.
One would not have forseen such a scoreline at half-time when the sides were deadlocked at 0-0 after an even first half where both sides had a chance or two, but two goals within miutes of each other on the restart from top scorer Jordan Cromwell (pictured) and another from Stephen Doyne ended the game as a contest with still 35 minutes to play. A great long range effort from Craig Cummiskey and his third of the night from Jordan Cromwell put a gloss on the scoreboard and makes it three wins out of four thus maintaining their excellent start to the season.
SKB; O'Hanlon, Firich, McGrath, Barry, Warren, Farry, Cummiskey, Rayner, Cromwell, Harrison, Doyne.
Subs used; Conway, Peyton,and Rooney.
