A marathon day which started at 10am ended just after 6.30pm this evening when the final whistle blew in the DB Sports Under 10 tournament final - a game in which our 10's (Orange) were playing their ninth game of the day.
The concession of two soft goals insde the first minute proved too much of a hill to overcome against a very good Chesterfield FC (Blue) squad - who had defeated their other side (Red) in the semi final. Despite getting back to 1-2 before half time (Callum Willoughby) they could never get back on level terms eventually going down 3-2 - Aaron Donnelly getting the second.
Evan Reilly scored the only goal in the semi final win over St Josephs Boys. Both SKB teams had emerged from their respective groups into the last 16 with both meeting one another in the last 8. In the quarter final two Chris Conlon goals were enough for SKB (Orange) to beat SKB (Black) for whom Liam Walsh scored. Chris Conlon was on the scoresheet twice in the previous round (last 16) in a 2-1 win over Shamrock Rovers.
In the Under 11 section SKB reached the quarter finals where they went down 2-1 despite having all of the play in the second.
Our Under 9 squad continued our great record in DB Summer tournaments when they won the 2016 version yesterday afternoon, our Under 12's were unlucky not to join them - unfortunately losing out in a penalty shoot-out to Cherry Orchard despite not conceding a goal in play during the tournament.
One up through a Graham Raynor goal at half time our first team conceded two goals in the last twenty minutes of their Tolka Rovers Tournament tie against Rivervalley Rangers and so relinquish the title that they won last season.
All day tomorrow and Sunday our Premier teams at Under 9 10 11 12 take part in the DB Sports pre season tournament at the VEC grounds in Ternure. This is always an excellent tournament with a high standard at all ages and is always worth a visit to support our teams.
