The great run of our Under 13 NDSL Premier team in the SFAI Sketchers Troy Cup came to an end when they lost to a goal two minutes from the end of extra time in their semi-final against Middleton FC. Having gone a goal behind from a delightful free kick by the Middleton number 9 and generally struggled in the first half where Middleton missed a penalty and also struck the post they put in a storming second half performance to equalise and maybe take the lead before the game entered extra time.
A 3-1 defeat is certainly not a true reflection on the SFAI Sketchers Barry Cup semi-final where our 16 DDSL Elite team - despite being reduced to ten men in the first half - missed numerous good chances to wrap the game up before an unfortunate og in the last minute and a further a minute later saw them exit the competition to St Josephs Boys.
Joey's went ahead against the run of play in the first half with a thirty yard strike before Lido Letefa equalised, then having got back level they conceded a penalty which was brialliantly saved by Brian Maher and then lost Jamie Carrig for a rash challange which saw him red carded. Despite these set backs they took the game to Joeys in the second half creating numerous chances which they failed to take.
Our Under 13 DDSL Premier lost out in the Sketchers SFAI Troy Cup semi final to a Ross Fay goal for Belvedere six minutes from time in a game of few clear cut chances but one which the home side dominated for long periods especially in the first half but they didnt turn that superiority into goals and their task was made all the more difficult when they were reduced to ten men when Leigh Kavanagh was dismissed for a second yellow with twenty minutes to go.
