SKB 16 ELITE 5 v VILLA FC 2
Like the 15's yesterday our 16 Elite had to come from behind to win this morning against Villa FC from Waterford and reach the last 16 of the SFAI Sketchers Barry Cup.
Gavin Kilkenny opened the scoring with a delightful free kick but Villa availed of some defensive lapses to score twice in the first half to lead 2-1 at the break. Parity was restored early in the second half through Lido Letefa but the real turning point in the game was Brian Maher saving a Villa penalty with the scores tied at 2-2. SKB scorers were Gavin Kilkenny (2) Lido Letefa (2) and Ger Noone. Douglas Hall from Cork will be the opposition next week at home in the last 16.
SKB 15 ELITE 4 v CABINTEELY FC 2
A stunning 25 yard free kick into the top corner of the Cabinteely net from Ryan Cassidy two minutes from time completed the fight-back from 2 nil down at half-time for our 15 Elite team this afternoon at Shanowen Road in their SFAI Sketchers Evans Cup last 32 fixture.
Cabinteely posted a warning early on when they had a header crash off the crossbar after ten minutes but the next time they attacked from a corner and struck the crossbar the rebound was headed in from close range. They doubled the lead ten minutes from half-time when a long through ball was misjudged leaving the attacker free to round Kian Clarke and slot home.
Changes in personnel and formation at half-time brought fresh impetus to a previously lack lustre home side and they got a goal back early in the second half when a long free kick from Kameron Ledwidge was misjudged by the Cabinteely goalkeeper to bring them back into the game. Cabinteely had the ball in the net soon after but were called back for offside - a big call - as 3-1 at that stage might have been to much to claw back. The disallowed goal certainly affected Cabinteely and their discipline under the constant pressure exerted by the home side began to unravel resulting in them being reduced to nine men in the closing stages with the pressure finally paying off with Cassidy's superb strike to force extra time.
Ross Tierney excellent when introduced in the halftime reshuffle tapped in the third SKB goal in the first period of extra time and Ryan Cassidy scored the fourth late on to set up an all SKB last 16 clash next weekend against our NDSL Premier team.
