Our first team are through to the second round of the FAI Junior Cup following their 5-1 win at home to Dundalk side Quay Celtic this afternoon. They were ahead 2-0 at halftime through goals from Stephen Cantwell and Peter Keegan. Keegan got his second twelve minutes into the second half - a carbon copy of his first when he rifled into the bottom corner after Karl Young rolled a short free kick just outside the penalty area into his path. Graham Raynor scored the other two following his introduction in the second half.
We will have home advantage in the second round against Meath League side Kentstown Rovers.
Last Tuesday September 1st they suffered their second defeat of the season 1-2 away to East Wall Bessborough at Clontarf All Weather. They found themselves 2 down at half time following a close enough first half. In the second period they enjoyed a lot more possession but couldn't force a way through the East Wall defence until eleven minutes from time when substitute Brian Conway fired home from ten yards, their misery was compounded minutes later when Stephen Cantwell was shown a second yellow card to earn his second dismissal of the season.
Our first team were hoping to get back to winning ways against Baldoyle United tonight following their 5-0 defeat last Sunday at Premier A League pace setters Collinstown FC and they looked to be on course for their second League win of the season when they led 2-0 at half time through goals from Jordan Cromwell and Stephen Cantwell.
Baldoyle introduced veteran striker Keith Kirwan for the second and he made a huge difference to the home side who pulled a goal back early in the second half. Stephen Cantwell had a chance to restore a two goal cushion five minutes later but saw his penalty saved. The home side took full advantage of the let off and were soon level with an excellent strike from 25 yards but Jordan Cromwell's second goal of the night ten minutes later looked to have won the points especially as Baldoyle were down to ten men for the last twenty minutes. A penalty in the first minute of injury time gave Mark Cromwell a chance to get a share of the points for the home side which he took - blasting the ball past Ciaran Bizzell after Paul McMillen was somewhat harshly penalised for handball when he slid in to block a shot the ball seemed to strike his arm.
SKB had most of the possession and the lions share of chances and will look back on this game as another two points dropped.
Two points dropped by our first team was the disappointing outcome of their second League match of the season against Trinity Donaghmede and it was also costly in more than points dropped as they had two players red carded and two more injured which does not bode well for their next fixture on Sunday (23rd) away to Collinstown F C (11.00am)
Having taken the lead against a Trinity Donaghmede side, who lost their first game 5-1, after ten minutes through Stephen Cantwell they never capitalized on the good start and with the injuries and red cards mounting it allowed Trinity a way back into the game which they grabbed through a second half penalty which was carelessly conceded.
Our first team got their League season underway yesterday at Larney Park where they defeated Finglas United 2-0. Both teams were guilty of missing several opportunities to take the lead especially in the first half when three decent goal scoring chances were created by both sides but none converted, meaning the tie was level at the break.
Finglas looked certain to finally break the dead lock on the hour mark when they won a penalty, but Ciaran Bizzell produced a brilliant save to deny Alan Kearns.
Conor Dowler came off the bench and opened the scoring and Jordan Cromwell added the second near the end to get the season off to a good start.
Our Senior Saturday started their League campaign on Wednesday in the AUL Complex against Butterkrust United with a 2-2 draw.
