SKB 2 Belvedere 2. SKB win 5-4 on pens after extra time.
Two wins out of two semi-finals appearances today were massive results both for the teams involved and for the Club in general.
Our 15's were two down at half time to Belvedere - the second conceded from a penalty in the last minute of the first half giving them a mountain to climb in the second half.
Ryan Harte pulled one back ten minutes into the second half and the momentum swung big time in their favour and when Jordan Pitshou levelled things up with fifteen minutes to go it seemed that they would add a winner before the end but despite having a chance or two there was no more scoring in the game or in the extra time which followed.
Bothe teams scored their first four penalties - SKB Jack Ryan, Gavin Kilkenny, Jake Walker, Mark Murray so when captain Luke Nolan stepped up to bang home the fifth the pressure was really on and the man of the moment arrived in the shape of goalkeeper Brian Maher whose save from Belvedere's fifth penalty ensured a final place and a chance to retain the SFAI Evans Cup next month.
Lourdes Celtic 2 SKB 3 (AET)
Beaten by Lourdes Celtic twice in the DDSL 12 Premier League already this season our 12's were fully aware of the challange which faced them in the semi-final of the SFAI Danone Cup at the Transport Club grounds in Rutland Avenue.
They got off to the best possible start when Dylan Quinn scored early on and were seldom in danger throughout the first half until the final minute of the half when failure to clear the danger resulted in Lourdes equalising on the stroke of half time. The second half was tight enough with clear cut chances at a premium with neither team adding to the scoreboard. In the last minute of the first period of extra time Eoin Green put SKB ahead and when Ruari Kinsella added a third with a spctacular goal early in the second period it seemed over but Lourdes kept battling and were awarded a penalty in injury time from which they scored but it was only of consolation value.
Well done to both teams - players and staff - a great day all round!!
