This weekend saw 5 of our teams involved in important National cups
Our U12 Premier had an emphatic 6-0 win in the SFAI Trophy quarter final at Shanowen Road against Swords Celtic and move confidently into the semi-finals.
In the SFAI U14 Goodson cup quarter final our U14 Premier played College Corinthians from Cork in Shanowen Road and this turned out to be a game worthy of any occasion.
Corinthians started brightly putting the home side under pressure all over the pitch but still found themselves 3-0 down after 25 minutes once the home side settled into the game.
Alex O'Reilly opened the scoring with a well placed free kick and he added a second before Cole Dillon got a third, but Corinthians still had plenty of the play and never dropped their heads and were rewarded with two goals just before the break to set up a second half in which the game was there for the taking for either side.
Both sides had good chances in the second half but the scoreline remained the same to the end of an excellent game played in the right spirit.
There was no such joy for our U15 Premier side who lost 3-1 to Shelbourne in the quarter final of their SFAI Evans Cup or our U16 Premier team who went down 4-0 to Belvedere in the quarter final of the SFAI Barry cup
Our U18 Premier side made the long journey to Cork to play their FAI Youth Cup semi final against a well fancied Douglas Hall team who had some notable wins on their way to this stage of the competition.
In a typical tough semi final where chances are few and far between, which can be expected in such games, they gave an excellent all round disclipined performance over the 90 minutes plus extra time to take the game to penalties.
What a penalty shoot out it turned out to be with all 11 penalties converted to finally win 11-10.
For the record the 11 hot-shots were;
Adetunji Olusanya aka TJ, Logan O'Connell, Ilya Bednakovs, Evan McGee, Calvin Fennelly, Sean Curran, Thalagas Segoapa, Calum Doolan, Luke Bolton, Luke O'Connor and Idris Olafimihan.
The majority of this team suffered a disappointing 1-0 loss in the FAI under 17 cup final last season so the chance is there next month to make up for that setback.
