Today was the turn of our 16 Premier and 15 Sunday Division 1 teams to try and emulate yesterday's performances of our under 14 and 15 Premier teams and progress to the last 16 pf their SFAI Cups.
Both teams came through after tough encounters against Tullamore Town in the under 16's and Limerick side Fairview Rangers in the 15's at a bitterly cold and windy St Aidans where the ability to play good football was severely restricted by the conditions.
Jack Moore, Sam Cummins (2), Josh Hamilton and Harry Denver were the scorers for the 16's in a 5-1 win while it took two goals in the last 15 minutes from Aleks Trandafirs and Promise Akinyemi to overcome Fairview Rangers in the under 15's tie.
Our under 14 premier and under 15 premier teams both advanced to the last 16 of their respective SFAI Cups yesterday afternoon with home wins over Pike Rovers and Clonmel Town respectively.
In the under 14 tie Pike Rovers came to Shanowen Road with an impressive background with their 2010 group having won the SFAI Cup at under 12 two years ago (beating SKFC in the final) and being runners-up at under 13 last season.
The SKFC squad has undergone a complete overhaul since the final two years ago with the vast majority of the players involved that day leaving to play national League of Ireland football so it made for an interesting game which sprang to life from the first minute when the referee awarded a penalty to the home side. Pike were back level before the break but two second half goals sealed a 3-1 win and a place in the last 16. SKFC scorers were Alex O'Reilly, Daniel Holton and Cole Dillon.
The last time Clonmel Town visited SKFC (2009) in the SFAI CUP they won the game so they were hoping that history would repeat itself today at St Aidans but this time the home side rose to the challenge and the result was never in doubt.
Harry Giffney made an impact on his return with a hat-trick with the other two goals coming from Darren Cregan and Ger Tyrell-Foran.
