Our under 12 Inter side had to dig deep and come from behind to overcome a previously unbeaten St Josephs Boys side at a breezy Pearse Park this morning to win 2-1 in their semi-final of the SFAI Cup. SKB dominated most of the game but Joeys took the lead following a defensive mix-up but goals from Daniel Holton and - what proved to be the winner ten minutes from time - from Ben Nicholls saw them through to the final despite a late onslaught from the home side. They will play either Pike Rovers in next months final.
Holycross AFC made our under 14's battle right to the end to eventually qualify on a 2-1 scoreline for next months SFAI Sketchers Cup final against Shamrock Rovers who had a big win over Middleton in their semi-final.
Marcel Schabowski opened the scoring early in the game and a number of other chances were wasted before Holycross came more into it and were unfortunate to strike the crossbar twice late in the first half - which ender 1-0.
Playing with a strong breeze in the second half the advantage seemed to lie with the home side and when Sam Rooney scored to make it 2-0 it seemed they would go on to win comfortably but Holycross came much more into the game and despite being reduced to 10 men for the last twenty minutes they made light of the handicap and pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go but that was as close as it got as the home side saw the game out with some further chances being missed to make things more comfortable.
In the second semi-final at Shanowen Road Salthill Devon and our under 15 premier team were deadlocked at half-time 0-0 but goals from Stephen Brady and Charlie Nolan in a five minute spell early in the second half - which SKB dominated - seemed to set them up for a win but Salthill pulled one back ten minutes later to open things up again but further goals from Oscar Skoubo Keeley and Eoghan Ryan settled the issue and a final date next month against County Louth side Bellurgan.
After taking a first half lead through Sean O'Keeffe and maintaining it until half time our under 16 premier side conceeded two second half goals from set pieces to loose out by the narrowest of margins to Carrigaline in their SFAI Cup semi-final in Ballea Park and despite having a number of half chances to equalise they couldn't find a way through to force the tie to extra time.
