SKB UNDER 13B ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
The honour of being the first SKB team to win a DDSL competition for this season 2021-2022 falls to our Under 13 Saturday B team who won their league yesterday with a 1-0 away win over Esker Celtic.
They went into their match yesterday against Esker Celtic FC with the knowledge that a point would secure the title.
In what turned out to be a tough ding dong battle the game was end to end. SKB started brightly creating a good chance when Zach Mooney went down the left and whipped in a great ball just out of reach of striker Darren Creggan. The game was very even in the first half with Esker and Kevins both enjoying good spells of possession. Mid way through the first half Esker Celtic almost took the lead when a through ball split the Kevins defence with the out rushing Jake Fitzpatrick in goal widening the angle for the Esker player however he still got his strike on goal and only an unbelievable track back and clearance off the line by Reon Joby kept the game at nil all.
The game continued to ebb and flow for the first half with both teams having dangerous moments with the game remaining level at the beak. The second half began as the first with Edric Palatty, Ryan Gill and Harry Nugent proving great width and threat on the wings throughout. Both teams had periods of pressure and Esker created some good chances but the rock solid defense of Christopher Barry and Jesse Nnadi snuffed out any danger time and time again. Lewis Oladipo and Lennix Gunnery played the entire match in central midfield and got through a huge amount of work and began to take control of the game ably assisted by Darius Romaniuc who won the ball and delivered it into dangerous areas.
The first and only goal of the game came with ten minutes to go when Darren Creggan was given a decent through. Darren had still a lot of work to do but turning inside and out he beat the two central defenders and unleashed a powerful strike at the goal, in fairness to the Esker goalkeeper he got a decent hand on the ball but could not keep the ball out of the top corner of the net.
Much credit to Esker Celtic who did not let the goal faze them and came back at Kevins and had sustained pressure at the St. Kevins goal with Jake Shiel in goal capably handling all that came at him. There was some tough and physical tackles as the game wound down which were all taken on the chin with good sportsmanship by both teams. The game finished one nil to Kevins which was no doubt one of their toughest games of the season, much respect to Esker Celtic as they were worthy opponents.
In the end Kevins secured the Under 13 B title with two games to spare and will look to build on the continued progress this season next year.
It also has to be acknowledged that Charlie Gordon and Alex Mooney were not in the squad on the day but both have played a huge role in the all the matches and throughout the season and were integral part of the title winning team as did every player in the squad.
Well done and congratulations to all the players and managers Aidan Fitzpatrick and Darren Herbert.
