After a long hard season our under 15's were crowned National Under 15 league champions this evening after a 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at the home of Athlone Town in Lissywollen.
Their resolve has been tested not alone over the season but more especially over the past four weeks as they overcame Waterford FC, Derry City and St Patricks Athletic in must win games before this evenings decider against Shamrock Rovers.
Deprived of the services of Nickson Okoson (suspended) and Josh Okagbue (injured) they rose to the occasion magnificently and took the game to Rovers from the start and were rewarded after just three minutes when Josh Lyons powered home a header from Sean McCarthy's corner kick. They dominated the opening thirty minutes before Rovers began to pose a bigger threat as half time approached. The second half saw Rovers theow caution to the wind in an effort to get back on terms but a tremendously disclipined defensive performance in which right-back Fintan Mc Namars was outstanding gaining him the man of the match award ensured that the Under 15 league national title has been added to last years Under 17 league title and the Under 17 cup success of the year before.
A great performance and congratulations to all of the squad and to the management team of Rob Doran, Keith Roche, Craig Caffrey, Willy Burke, Andy McKenna (Jun) along with physios Frank Loftus and Jeff Dequina.
