The Club's long awaited quest to add a third SFAI cup title to the two titles already won in 2020 at U12 and 14 has ended in defeat for our U16 premier team as Cherry Orchard came from behind twice to win the trophy 3-2 in St Mochta's grounds in Porterstown.
Daniel Chukwu opened the scoring inside the first five minutes but Cherry Orchard equalised with a fine strike coming up to half-time.
When Alex Connolly restored the lead inside forty seconds of the re-start it looked to be an ideal opportunity to re-establish a foothold in the game but it was not to be as Cherry Orchard levelled inside the next sixty seconds.
The next goal was always going to be crucial and it was a goal worthy of winning any cup tie as the Cherry Orchard No.4 struck an unstoppable strike into the top corner which gave David Leonard no chance of stopping with twenty minutes remaining. Dan Bergin came closest to bringing the game to extra time with a header which just skimmed the bar in injury time.
Hard luck to Donal Crawford, Damien O'Kelly and the squad for getting to the final and putting up a great battle but well done to Cherry Orchard on their victory.
