St Kevin's Boys 2 v Shamrock Rovers 0
Our Under 12's are SFAI national champions following a 2-0 extra time win over arch rivals Shamrock Rovers at Whitehall this morning thereby retaining the trophy won last year against the same opposition and making it 4 national titles on the trot at this age for the club.
In a tight exciting game which lacked the athmosphere normally associated with national cup finals due to Covid crowd restrictions there was nothing between the teams with both goalkeepers Finn McDonnell and Stanislaw Wasilewski making good saves throughout the game when called on, while Paddy Brides and Sam Kierans were rock solid at the back making vital interceptions and tackles to keep a sharp Rovers attack at bay.
At the end of the sixty minutes in which SKB shaded the first thirty and Rovers the second it was still scoreless, but just before half time in extra time Paddy Brides rose to meet a corner from the left and powered in a superb header off the underside of the crossbar to score the all important opening goal. Rovers went all out in the last ten minutes to get the equaliser but were nearly caught on the break once or twice before a defensive mix-up allowed Jake Scott add the clinching goal three minutes from time.
Well done to all the players and the management team of Mark Tate, Ross Toal and Ben Donohoe.
