FURTHER UPDATE ON FOOTBALL RESUMPTION
SKB today received this latest update on football resuming in the country which we share below.
Administrators of all national sports in Ireland had a meeting yesterday with Gary Owen ( FAI) in attendance to give an update on the state of play at the moment.
All three major sporting FAI, GAA and IRFU are constantly in contact with the Government and HSE with Dr Alan Byrne representing the FAI.
All parties have stated that there will be no return to training or playing matches until it is safe to do so and the health and safety of all involved can be assured.
If the proposed dates to return remain as they are Sport Ireland and the HSE will be issuing a document outlining what leagues, clubs and players will need to do from their end to ensure their own safety.
One query raised by several clubs and leagues is who is responsible if a player picks up COVID 19 on the pitch and the simple answer is each player is playing by free choice and is responsible for his own well being. In other words, a player who feels he picked up the virus while playing cannot sue his club, league, affiliate or the FAI. It is highly likely that players (adult) and parents (underage) will need to sign a consent form before returning to play
Other query raised was who tends to a player who gets injured on the pitch. Once again the answer is common sense, who ever is physio on the day should treat the player as normal but should wear the relevant PPE while doing so (mask, gloves, etc)
The FAI have sent several queries to the Government and HSE regarding these matters and are expecting a reply by early next week at latest and I further updates will follow.
Included in these queries were;
1. seeking a clear policy to manage all risks for volunteers around a return to play & to ensure a safe environment for all participants.
2. Clarity on the effects of social distancing on contact sports as per the phrase outlines in the Government Roadmap.
3. Guidance on the infrastructural costs for amateur adult clubs around safe return to play protocols.
The situation changes almost on a daily basis but as the phases (beginning next Monday) come into play, things should become a little clearer, hopefully for the better.
It is advised that leagues do not make a rushed decision on when they return to playing fixtures until all information is available and a proper decision can be made.
The most important information that came from this morning's meeting is that people involved in our game will not be expected to return until is deemed medically safe to do so ........
Clubs are also reminded that all football remains ceased until further notice, for the safety of all.
