A tenth minute goal from the penalty spot by Jordan Cromwell mover our first team to within touching distance of intermediate football next season as they beat table toppers and promotion rivals Ayrfield United 1-0 in an entertaining game last night at St Aidans.
They have three more league games left to play and more than likely one win from those three games could be enough to go up.
This Friday at home they play Ardmore Rovers followed by away games next Tuesday against Corduff F C with the final game away to Clondalkin Celtic.
A great night of celebration last Friday as St Kevin’s Boys first team players and management claimed their first piece of Leinster League silverware by coming from behind to beat Larkview 2-1 in the Kevin Nugent Cup Final.
The better team throughout much of the game they could not find the elusive breakthrough in the first half despite dominating and having one chance cleared off the line so 0-0 at the break.
They started the second half on the front foot and struck the post after two minutes and a few minutes later Bobby O'Reilly glanced a header from an Andy McKenna free-kick wide of the post. Larkview seldom got out of their own half during this period of sustained SKB pressure but when they did manage to lift the siege they did so in telling fashion - scoring direct from a long range free kick and had two more good chances to put the issue beyond doubt when the game stood at 1-0.
A storming last 15 minutes when SKB had regained their composure first saw Jordan Cromwell hit a great left footed strike into the bottom corner and then five minutes later Adam Whelan beat the offside trap to fire home a brilliant winner.
One cup in the bag to go with the Saturday teams league win a few weeks ago so the focus returns to next Tuesdays league tie against Ayrfield United and the push for promotion to intermediate football along with a Leinster Junior Cup semi-final against Sheriff next weekend to come as well.
SKB had netted nineteen times on the way to this stage defeating Castleknock Celtic (1-5), Corduff (5-0), Newlands Castle Park (2-0) and Ballyfermot United (7-2).
