SKB were involved in five national cup semi-finals and one quarter-final this weekend along with league cup games at various stages in the LSL and DDSL.
A highnoon showdown on Saturday saw our Under 13's take on St Josephs Boys in the semi-final of the SFAI Sketchers Troy Cup - of which we are the holders - a tough encounter was expected and that is what this game produced with five goals being scored in what was an exciting cup tie from start to finish with both teams looking for a final spot next month. Joeys started well and looked the more energetic side but it was the home side who took the lead in the third minute when Luke Browne scored from close range. Joeys were level in the 15th minute when a high lob deceived the home defemce and landed in the corner of the net. Jamie Murphy had SKB in front again before half-time and Sam Curtis made it three with a thumping header ten minutes into the second half and it looked as if that was it but Joeys pulled one back with twelve minutes to go and went all out for an equaliser but the home defence survived some close shaves to survive and secure their place in the final against Mervue United.
Our 18's made the long journey to Tralee to play St Brendans Park FC in the semi-final of the FAI Youths Cup - one of the few national trophies to elude us over the years - and they came away with their third consecutive win on the road in this competition thanks to a last minute winner from Lee Keeley to book a final place next month against either Tramore AFC or Kilfrush Corinthians - our first FAI Youths Cup final since 2001.
If the first game at Shanowen on Saturday was a tight tense affair the second game which followed when the 12's played Cork side Middleton in a re-arranged quarter-final of the SFAI Sketchers Norton Cup was a much different affair with the home side dominant all over the pitch from the first whistle. Mark Tarzan had a hat-trick on the board inside 15 minutes and Logan Preston made it four before the break. Danny McGrath was the hat-trick hero in the second half which was added to by a superb Ryan Markey header to see out an emphatic win through to a semi-final against Evergreen from Kilkenny.
Another Cork side - Douglas Hall were the visitors to Shanowen on Sunday to take on Under 11's in the SFAI Sketchers Norton Cup semi-final and in a tight game of few clear cut chances it was the visitors who claimed the final place on offer with a 1-0 win - the goal coming midway through the first half - which ended the 11's great run in the SFAI Cup this season.
The Under 15 SFAI Sketchers Evans Cup semi-final against Letterkenny Rovers was decided in the last five minutes of a tight game in which both sides wasted numerous chances when Jamie Murphy slotted home a penalty following a foul on Callum Warren and he added a second in the last minute of injury time heading home a well flighted free kick from Ben Curtis. Byron Preston had scored the opener in the first half but Letterkenny equalised early in the second period. Their final opponents will be either College Corinthians from Cork or Carlows Hanover Harps..
Our 19's gained revenge for a recent league defeat at the hands of Ratoath Harps by winning 5-2 in the LSL Dunne Cup quarter-final.
Both SKB/BOHS Airtricity League teams are back in action today -
The 15's were in Gortakeegan to play Cavan-Monaghan FP and despite five of the squad being involved in two international games during the week they showed no ill effects and maintained their unbeated start to the season with a convincing 6-0 win with goals from David Agbonyinwa, Bosun Lawel, Ronan Kilkenny and a superb hat-trick from Samuel Ayoola.
In St Aidans the 17's played Shelbourne FC and came from a goal down to score an emphatic 5-1 win to stay top of their group.
Best of luck to all of our teams - come out and support them!!
