Our 2017 Under 15's who competed in the short season Airtricity National Under 15 league are involved this week in the Villa de Cabanillas tournament in Northern Spain a top class event which has been running for the past 26 years and SKB are involved for the second year in succession having finished in 8th position last year and had Kian Clarke win goalkeeper of the tournament.
Espanyol were the first opponents this morning in a three team group that includes Celta de Vigo. The concession of two soft goals in two minutes in the first half made things more difficult than they should have been and a much improved performance in the second half saw Ebooka Favour reduce the deficit with 18 minutes to play and only two top class saves from the Espanyol goalkeeper from Paddy Moore prevented them getting a share of the points which their overall performance maybe deserved
Celta de Vigo were a much more difficult proposition in the second game with their lightening quick passing and movement causing all sorts of problems and we rode our luck on several occasions until two minutes from halftime when Vigo went ahead from the penalty spot. A slightly improved second half performance saw us come a bit more into the game but the classy Vigo still managed a further two goals late on.
In the final game of the group Celta Vigo came from behind to beat Espanyol 2-1 and qualify for the semi fina.
SKB faced Osasuna in the 9/10th playoff in what turned out to be almost a replica of the Celta Vigo game - SKB going in at halftime two down after again conceding soft goals but a much better second half where Paddy Moore scored a fine goal and brought a couple of fine saves from the Osasuna 'keeper leaving the final score 1-3.
Leigia Warsaw and FC Ribera played off for 11/12th.
The four groups of three teams (With group winners in brackets) taking part are:
Group A CA Osasuna Real Zaragoza( Winners). Alaves
Group B Real Sociedad (Winners). Athletico Bilbao FC Ribera
Group C. Espanyol Celta de Vigo (Winners). St Kevins Boys.
Group D Real Madrid Levante (Winners). Leigia Warsaw.
The four group winners contested the semifinals and both were decided on penalties, Celta Vigo were surprisingly beaten by Real Zaragoza while a goal in the eight minute of injury time secured Real Sociedad a draw against Levante but it was Levante who progressed to the final winning 6-5 in the shootout
