Congratulations to our Under 14's beating Belvedere FC 2-1 to become the SFAI All Ireland U14 champions and then our Under 16's added another title by beating Mervue United 2-1 to become the U16 SFAI All Ireland champions adding this win to their win last year in the SFAI Under 15 Evans Cup.
Despite conceding a goal right on half time our Under 14's lifted their performance greatly in the second half and got back into the game in controversial fashion when the Belvedere goalkeeper was adjudged to have carried the ball behind the line before he was tackled which resulted in him being injured but the goal stood. Gavin O'Brien scored (see photo) what proved to be the winner when he headed home powerfully from a corner kick from Roland Banya with fifteen minutes to go as SKB finished the game strongly but couldn't add to the scoreline. Gavin O'Brien deserdevly picked up the man of the match award.
The Under 16 final was a more open affair with SKB dominating the first half against the breeze with Ross Tierney giving a man of the match performance in midfield and they might have had more to show at half time than the 2-0 lead that they enjoyed through goals from Dawson Devon and Ryan Cassidy. Mervue came into the game more in the second half and their pressure paid off as they pulled one back with still 25 minutes to play but SKB regrouped and saw the game out to win 2-1 and add the SFAI Sketchers Barry Cup to the SFAI Evans Cup that this group won last season.
More finals tomorrow with our 12's and 13's in action at 12 noon and 2pm in Jackson Park - two games not to be missed.
