Seven big National cup games this weekend
In the last of the cup ties over the weekend our U17 Premier DDSL team faced Ringmahon Rangers in St Aidans in the FAI Under 17 Cup and were extremely fortunate to win 2-1 with a goal in injury time when the visiting goalkeeper failed to deal with a long high speculative ball from John Barry and the ball dropped over the line, John was already on the scoresheet having superbly volleyed home the lead goal in the first half.
The first of those games took place on Friday evening at St Aidans where the all DDSL Premier clash between our Under 14 Premier team and Crumlin United in the SFAI Sketchers Goodson Cup produced an exiting game that seemed to be slipping away from the home side - despite having most of the play - they found themselves staring at the exit door in this years competition when behind 0-2 with six minutes left on the clock but a scrambled first goal from Cronan Noonan and an equaliser four minutes later from a superb strike from Bosun Lawell brought the game to extra time. The home side dominated the extra-time and the winner came in the second period when Roland Banya made no mistake from the penalty spot to book a home semi-final spot against Middleton or Carrigaline United.
At Shanowen Road our Under 13 Premier team hosted Cappry Rovers from Donegal at 2pm in the SFAI Sketchers Troy Cup and ran out convincing 8-0 winners to move into the semi-final against either St Brendan's Park or Everggreen while at the same time our Under 12 Premier team made their trip up to Carndonagh a winning one against the locals in the SFAI Sketchers Cup on a 7-0 scoreline, they will be on the road again in the semifinals against either Naas FC or Middleton.
Our 16 NDSL Premier made the journey to Galway to play Mervue in the SFAI Sketchers Barry Cup but bowed out of the competition losing 4-0.
Our Under 16 DDSL Premier side survived a tough test away to Corduff FC in Corduff Park in the SFAI Sketchers Barry Cup winning 2-1 with goals from Katheligo Mashigo and Ryan Cassidy - they are at home in the semi-final to Mungret Regional or Villa FC.
Wilton United from Cork provided the opposition in the FAI Youth Cup for our U18 DDSL Premier team at Pat Bowdren Park and it turned out to be an incident packed game played in ideal conditions on a very heavy pitch which tested the stamina of both teams to the hilt. The home side settled better and were a goal up after 15 minutes and SKB suffered a further blow when they were reduced to 10 men a minute later, a second goal conceded a minute into the second half looked to have sealed it for the home side but from then to the finish the 10 men dominated the game and pulled one back with 15 minutes to go through Levi Boardman but just couldn't get the equaliser that their effort deserved.
